Firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, and Cal Fire continue battling the Bodfish Fire. The fire began on Thursday July 16th 2010 at approximately 8:30 P.M., along Caliente Bodfish Rd between Bodfish and Havilah in the area of Hooper Hill.
At 4:30 PM on Friday July 16th 2010, the fire is approximately 520 acres in size and is currently 35% contained, with 400 personnel on scene. Four water dropping helicopters and four air tankers have been assisting in fighting the fire. More resources have been ordered for the night operations to include 7 Type 1 hand crews. Fire crews are making good progress with constructing fireline and have approximately 3.5 miles to build.
There are no reported injuries. The cause of the fire was due to lightening strikes as a thunder cell passed through the Kern River Valley on July 15th 2010.
