Center Fire, Big Pine, Inyo County. The fire is 100% contained.

Inyo County Building officials continue to asses the outbuildings that may have been damaged or destroyed.

Current Situation: Firefighters remain at scene to mop up and patrol for hot spots. Rain continues to fall in the fire area. There is no impact to Highway 395.

Some hazards and hot spots still exist throughout the burned area. Firefighters and work crews continue to work in the area to make it safe again, but residents and travelers are urged to be cautious in the fire area. Evacuations: The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuations.

Cooperating Agencies: Inyo County Sheriff, US Forest Service, CHP, CalEMA, CDCR, Big Pine Volunteer Fire Department, Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department, Bishop Volunteer Fire Department, Long Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Wheeler Crest Volunteer Fire Department, BLM, CalTrans & DWP

Additional Information: Despite the extreme winds, firefighters were able to quickly contain this fire due to the work and cooperation between the volunteer, state, local and federal firefighters, we well as the law enforcement agencies and public work departments.

The American Red Cross is offering assistance to the victims whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the fire.

March 19, 2011 7:30 PM - Current Situation: Firefighters made good progress today in building containment around the fire. Diminished winds and more favorable weather aided in firefighters efforts.

Highway 395 is back open in both directions.

Some hazards and hot spots still exist throughout the burned area. Firefighters and work crews continue to work in the area to make it safe again, but residents and travelers are urged to be cautious in the fire area.

Evacuations: The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuations.

Additional Information: The American Red Cross is offering assistance to the victims whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the fire and will be holding a meeting on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Big Pine School to discuss disaster assistance.

Estimated 19 residences damaged or destroyed

Mandatory evacuations are in place at the following areas:

Everything west of West Street in Big Pine

All other evacuations have been lifted.

Evacuation centers have been set up at the Bishop Fair Grounds, Big Pine High School and Lone Pine High School.

The fire is being fanned by strong winds.

Th fire has jumped Hwy 395 and is burning on both sides of the Highway.

CHP & Caltrans are escorting traffic in both directions of Highway 395.
Highway 168 East is closed northbound.

The public can call 760-937-1686 to locate displaced residents.

An undetermined amount of structures have been lost around Big Pine in the Indian Camp, Rossi Lane and Glacier View Trailer Park areas.

Mandatory evacuations are in place at the following areas:

Everything west of Main Street in Big Pine
Night Manor, Rolling Green and Terrace areas of Big Pine

Voluntary evacuations are in place for residents who live on the east side of Highway 395 in Big Pine.

Evacuation centers have been set up at the Bishop Fair Grounds, Big Pine High School and Lone Pine High School.

Th fire has jumped Hwy 395 and is burning on both sides of the Highway.

Highway 395 is closed southbound from Bishop, and northbound from Independence. Highway 168 East is closed northbound. The public can call 760-937-1686 to locate displaced residents.
