Heat perimeter of the Elephant fire on Aug. 17, 2009.
Elephant, Plumas NF. Transfer of command from IMT2 (Swartzlander) back to local unit occurred yesterday. Twenty-five miles north of Oroville, CA. Timber. Minimal fire activity.
The Tobin fire is at 10 acres and 100% contained.
The Elephant Fire is burning on the Plumas National Forest east of Highway 70 in the Feather River Canyon near the Elephant Butte Tunnel.
Fire Behavior: Low intensity - 1 foot flame lengths.
Four Type 1 Hot Shot Crews are currently assigned to the fire. However, 3 Type I Hot Shot Crews are available in case assistance is needed.
Residents and visitors are still urged to use caution while driving in the fire area.
