Fire fighters from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest are responding to a grass and oak woodlands fire just north of Pigeon Point campground, west of Helena, Calif. The fire has burned approximately five acres. Fire retardant dropped from an air tanker has been effective in minimizing the spread of the fire. Hose line is expected to be in place around the fire within the hour.
The fire began at approximately 4:30 p.m. today. Five engines and firefighting hand crews, a water tender, two patrol vehicles, a bulldozer, and air resources responded to the scene. CalFire is assisting in firefighting efforts. The cause of the fire is unknown. Fire fighting efforts are ongoing.
