FEMA Funding to Help California Fight 49 Fire
9:47 p.m. Current Situation: Firefighters continue to monitor hot spots within the interior of the perimeter and assist the homeowners as they return to their property.
Evacuations: As of 7 p.m. Monday, August 31, all evacuations on the 49 Fire were lifted for residents with valid identification or proof of residency. County chaplains will be on hand for those residents whose homes were burned by the fire. Law enforcement officers will also have an increased patrol in the area.
PG&E crews continue to work to restore power and gas but isolated outages remain. To check on the status of power and gas, customers can contact 1-800-743-5000.
Residents should remain cautious of fire personnel and equipment working in the area. There are also a number of other health and safety hazards throughout the fire area. For more tips and precautions when returning home in the fire zone, visit www.placer.ca.gov.
Road Closures: Parkway Drive remains closed to residents only

Progress is being made in restoring electricity, all residents should have power restored by Wednesday afternoon. Utility Crews anticipate restoring gas to customers starting Wednesday evening.

5:45 p.m. PG&E update: On Sunday evening, electricity and gas services were cut off in the fire area for security reasons. On Sunday evening, 3,700 customers were without power according to PG&E spokesperson Brian Swanson. As of 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 260 customers remain without electrical service. By 7:30 p.m. tonight, all but 160 customers should be back online. Gas service to the area is still cut off, the main gas line will not be re-pressurized until Wednesday evening. Each intact home will have PG&E staff test the lines and restart services once safety inspections are successfully concluded.
3:52 p.m. 49er Fire Local Assistance Center Opens on Tuesday
3:03 p.m. If you live in the evacuated area and are in need of medications left in your home, you may go to the 84 lumberyard and check in with Placer County Sheriff's Office. You will need ID!
2:54 p.m. The Evacuation Center has moved to the ARD Regional Park on Richardson Dr. across from Parkside Church. (thank you Diane at Calvary Chapel Auburn)

11:54 a.m. The Evacuation Center has moved to the Calvary Chapel on 202 Dairy Road.
11:45 a.m. Crews are making good progress in containing residual hotspots. All infrastructure companies are on scene, replacing power, phone, water and other amenities.
7:15 a.m. Evacuations for Hwy 49 east to Quartz Road, Hwy 49 north to Saddleback, Dry Creek to Black Oak, Florance to Stanley Dr., Lockley Lane, Moss Rock and Shadow Rock.
Evacuations to the Saddleback area have been lifted to residents only.
Auburn airport is closed due to fire danger at the end of the runway.
Power continues to be out throughout the fire area.
6:52 a.m. Caltrans: Hwy 49 is closed northbound traffic from 3 miles north of the junction of I 80 (Placer Co) to 1.7 miles north of the Placer/Nevada counties line.
Currently, evacuations are in place for Dry Creek Road, east of Highway 49 and south of Dry Creek to Windsong Court.
The evacuation of the Saddleback area has been lifted to local residents only and access can only be made through Virginia Street.
The Placer County Sheriffs Office will have additional patrols through the burn area through the evening.
Placer County has declared a state of local emergency and requested that the governor’s office declare a state emergency.
Shelters have been established at the Rock Creek Elementary School on Bell Road at Highway 49, and at Auburn Elementary School at 1400 Lariat Ranch Road.
Streets that will remain closed through the night are:
• Windsong,
• Parkway Drive,
• Greenstone Court,
• Griffin, and
• Dry Creek from Saddleback to Highway 49.
7:45 p.m. Gov. Schwarzenegger Proclaims State of Emergency in Placer County Due to Wildfire
8:05 p.m. A damage assessment team is on scene, evaluating all structures within the fire perimeter. Firefighting operations are ongoing.
6:00 PM The forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Structures within the fire perimeter at risk, firefighters setting up structure protection where possible.
Animal evacuation center has been established at the Dewitt Center.
Mandatory Evacuations for Hwy 49 east to Quartz Road, Hwy 49 north to Saddleback, Dry Creek to Black Oak, Moss Rock and Saddle Rock.
Numerous evacuations underway, road closures. Smoke is impacting a wide area of Placer and Nevada counties. Fire progress stopped at the airport, some commercial structures and residences on fire.
Bell Road at Hwy 49 is shut down. Command post is being set up at Quartz Drive and Hwy 49.
Sacramento and Sacramento Metro Fire Departments have sent two Type 1 Strike Teams to the fire currently burning in the Auburn area. A total of ten Sacramento area Fire Engines have responded to the fire near Highway 49 and Bell Road.
