Friday, September 12, 2008 - Despite the tragic loss of the Schulman Grove Visitor Center to fire on September 4, the Inyo National Forest is pleased to announce that the plans for the 50th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest are proceeding. The celebration will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 PM at Schulman Grove. The event will include speakers, presentations, music, light refreshments and drinks. The celebration has now become a much more important event as it will include an announcement for plans for the area and a kick off of the local fund raising event to replace the much beloved log cabin visitor center.

It was 50 years ago this year that the US Department of Agriculture set aside the 28,000 acre Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest as a specially designated botanical area. The celebration event on Saturday the 20th commemorates that event, and will begin at 1:00 PM. Those planning on attending are encouraged to car pool and be sure to bring a shade hat.
