MATHER, CA May. 18, 2010 - California Emergency Management Agency Secretary Matthew Bettenhausen joined Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the State of California's largest port security Full Scale Exercise (FSE), Golden Guardian 2010.
The port terrorism themed drill is the sixth statewide homeland security and disaster preparedness exercise in the Governor's annual Golden Guardian Exercise Series. Events will occur throughout all three of California's regional areas: Coastal, Inland and Southern. Over 3,000 local, regional, state and federal responders, as well as state agencies and private industry, will participate. Golden Guardian continues to be the largest state exercise drill in the nation.
"Governor Schwarzenegger has made public safety a top priority," stated Secretary Bettenhausen. "Training and exercises assures all levels of government and different public safety disciplines can work together to prevent, prepare for, respond to and quickly recover from intentional and natural disasters. These drills are essential to California's overall prevention, response and recovery capabilities."
Simulated terrorist attacks will be exercised May 18th and 19th at the ports of San Diego, Oakland, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Redwood City, and Sacramento, as well as CSU, San Marcos. Events in the Coastal Region were linked to the State Operations Center (SOC) and a Joint Information Center (JIC) was activated to support the response and recovery effort.
