Judicial Council Appoints Jody Patel Interim Admin. Director of Courts

By: Judicial Council of California

San Francisco February 9, 2012 - Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye today announced that the Judicial Council has approved the appointment of Ms. Jody Patel as Interim Administrative Director of the California Courts, effective Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Ms. Patel will succeed Mr. Ronald G. Overholt, who announced his resignation as Interim Director earlier today. Ms. Patel does not intend to apply for a permanent position as Administrative Director. She will stay in the interim position until the nationwide search is completed.

"I am honored to accept the appointment as Interim Administrative Director," stated Ms. Patel. "I will provide my full support to the Chief Justice, the Judicial Council, AOC, and the entire judicial branch until a permanent Administrative Director is appointed. When the permanent director comes on board, I hope that I can transfer to him or her a well-functioning organization and I will help in any way I can with the transition."

Ms. Patel serves as the Regional Administrative Director of the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). Before joining the AOC in 2006, she served as the executive officer for the Superior Court of Sacramento County from 2001–2006. Ms. Patel was awarded the Judicial Council Distinguished Service Award in Judicial Administration in 2005 for her significant contributions to the judicial branch.

"As Regional Administrative Director, Ms. Patel is well known for effective work in building partnerships and facilitating communications between the AOC and the courts," said Justice Douglas P. Miller, Chair of the Judicial Council's Executive and Planning Committee."
