SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. June 8, 2010 - The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) has released two new inspirational coral reef conservation videos to coincide with World Oceans Day.

The two short videos, featuring legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, take viewers on a visual journey underwater and on land to learn about CORAL's community approach, field program initiatives, and the underlying urgency behind coral reef conservation.

"These videos illustrate the positive impact our work is having on coral reefs and coral reef communities around the world," said Brian Huse, Executive Director at CORAL. "It is our hope that these videos will foster greater awareness about marine conservation issues and will inspire individuals to get involved in order to enact positive changes right now."

Though reports show that nearly 20 percent of coral reef ecosystems have been lost over the past few decades, CORAL remains optimistic about the results its organization has been able to achieve and the greater opportunities that lie ahead.

"We have a model that works," said Huse. "When well-managed marine protected areas are supported by active local communities and defended against local threats, the reefs not only recover, but also become more resistant to large-scale stressors like climate change."

The new videos are now available on CORAL's website at www.coral.org/CORAL_videos.

The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) unites communities to save coral reefs. We provide tools, education, and inspiration to residents of coral reef destinations to support local projects that benefit both reefs and people. Originally founded in 1994 to galvanize the dive community for conservation, CORAL has grown from a small, grassroots alliance into the only international nonprofit organization that works exclusively to protect our planet's coral reefs.
