Norfolk, VA, July 23, 2008 - Thousands of cats, dogs, rabbits, and other animal companions belonging to servicemen and servicewomen deployed overseas miss their troops just as much as their troops miss them. That's why PETA has created a brand-new Web feature to "reunite" soldiers with the animal members of their families through the magic of the Internet. Visitors to HelpingAnimals.com can upload digital photos with accompanying messages and signs, which can be downloaded by troops' friends and family members. And PETA has made it simple.
Families or friends of a deployed soldier can either print out one of PETA's ready-made signs - "I Miss My Soldier" or "We Miss Our Soldier" - or make their own. Then they can upload an image of the animal - and themselves and the sign - either by using a form or e-mailing it to Flickr@peta.org. Senders can also include a personalized message. To help senders formulate their photos, the Web site will feature a streaming gallery-box slideshow of photos that have already been sent by other military families.
Says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch, "PETA wants to give all the cats, dogs, bunnies, and birds who love a soldier a chance to say, 'I miss you too!'"
