Britney Spears Beats Out Paris Hilton in Open Source Code Popularity (Although Neither Holds Candle to Satan)

MENLO PARK, Calif., May 5 - Krugle, Inc., the code search company, today announces its list of top Java queries that developers world-wide have submitted during the last month at Krugle.com, as well as the number of times various celebrity names are included in the billions of lines of open source code tracked by Krugle.

"Code search provides a lot of value to enterprises beyond just finding code you can reuse," says Mel Badgett, Vice President of Product Marketing. "Although Fortune 500 companies are increasingly using Krugle in new, unexpected ways such as finding bugs in existing code -- we thought we'd have some fun and look to see what Java terms are searched for the most and how often open source developers include celebrity names in their code."

Leading up to JavaOne Conference, Krugle examined trends in the most popular Java trends search by their users. "j2me" leads the Java queries at Krugle.com for the month of March, with "hadoop" as a close second, and "swing," "superwava," and "dozer" rounding out the top five.

As for distinctly non-Java searches uncovered by Krugle management, "Knuth" returned the highest number of hits in honor of leading computer scientist and "father of algorithm analysis" Donald Knuth, far outstripping close second "Satan." Next on the list, "George Bush" edged out "Britney Spears," with both dominating the fifth-ranked "Fidel Castro." "Paris Hilton" rounded out the bottom of the rankings. "Hillary Clinton" dominated the presidential candidates, followed by "John McCain" and then "Barack Obama."
