October 30, 2013 - Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been asked by the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee to testify about the technical problems with the federal marketplace website, www.healthcare.gov, and she will do so today. The following is the comment of Ron Pollack, Executive Director of the health consumer organization Families USA, about that hearing:
"Today's hearing scales new heights in hypocrisy by opponents of the Affordable Care Act.
"The very people who are seeking to derail, delay and defund the Act are berating Secretary Sebelius and shedding crocodile tears about problems with the marketplace's website.
"Perhaps these members believe their crocodile tears can short-circuit the electronic repairs that are being made to the website. This hypocrisy—like the 40 futile votes to repeal the Act and the government shutdown to defund it—will once again fail to deter the law's implementation.
"When the website inevitably is fixed, it will allow families across the nation to purchase affordable, high-quality health coverage—and this is what families across our nation need."
