6 Day Heat Wave starts Today

By: National Weather Service Sacramento CA

June 28, 2013 - Today marks the beginning of a heat event as high pressure dominates the Western US. Widespread triple digit heat in the valley is forecast now through at least Wednesday of next week making this a 6 day heat wave.

Temperatures across inland NorCal, including mountain areas, will increase a degree or two each day until the peak of this event on Mon & Tue. Both daytime highs and overnight lows will range 10-15 degrees above normal between Sun-Wed which is why an Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for that time period.

Monsoonal moisture is forecast to stream northward which will not only bring Sierra thunderstorm potential, but this moisture may also make conditions feel a bit muggy, especially Sun-Wed.

Heat related illnesses are a primary concern! Stay cool & hydrated while checking on elderly, young children, pets, and livestock.

Follow #heatwave on social media for updates on this event across the Western US.
