By: National Weather Service Reno NV

July 25, 2010 - A critical thunderstorm pattern over the area today will produce abundant lightning and gusty outflow winds. Thunderstorms will develop by late morning and continue through this evening. Thunderstorms will become stronger and wetter through today with abundant lightning outside the storm cores.

Red flag warning remains in effect from 11 am this morning to 6 pm this evening for dry thunderstorms and gusty outflow winds for the Northern Sierra, Northeast California and Northwest Nevada.

Affected Areas:

In California: The Surprise Valley, Eastern Lassen County and the eastern portions of the Lassen, Plumas and Tahoe National Forests.

In Northwest Nevada: Northern Washoe County and the Western Nevada Sierra Front including Reno, Carson City and Minden.

Thunderstorms: Scattered thunderstorms will develop by early afternoon. Thunderstorms will produce wetting rains and abundant lightning by late afternoon.

Outflow Winds: Gusty outflow winds up to 50 mph.

Impacts: Lightning will create new fire starts and combine with strong outflow winds to produce rapid fire growth.

Outflow winds of 50 mph or more are possible today, may travel a long distance from the parent thunderstorm. If a thunderstorm does not pass over your location, strong gusty outflow winds may produce critical fire conditions. A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur.

Area: Surprise Valley California - Western Lassen - Eastern Plumas - Eastern Sierra - Eastern Nevada Counties - Eastern Lassen County - Western Nevada Sierra Front - Northern Washoe County

Affected Counties or parts of: Modoc, Plumas, Placer, Mono, Lassen, El Dorado, Nevada, Sierra, Alpine
