Placerville CA Oct. 6, 2008 - Eldorado National Forest fire restrictions will be removed at midnight on Monday, October 6, 2008. Visitors will once again be able to use wood, charcoal, or gas fires or stoves outside of developed campgrounds as long as they possess a valid California Campfire Permit and follow the permit regulations.
"Despite cooler temperatures and the recent storm, fuel conditions in most of the forest are still dry," said Fire Management Officer Bob Patton. "Visitors planning to build a campfire should make sure they have a shovel; remove burnable material at least five feet in all directions around the campfire by scraping down to mineral soil; extinguish the campfire by drowning it with water; and never leave it unattended. Campfires should be avoided during windy weather conditions."
Campfires are prohibited year-round in Desolation Wilderness Area and within areas of the Mokelumne Wilderness above 8,000 feet elevation, the Carson Pass Management Area, and within a 1/4 mile of Salt Springs Reservoir.
