Firefighters make short work of vegetation fire in Grass Valley

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. May 3, 2013 - Numerous calls to 911 reported flames visible near Highway 20 and South Ponderosa Way in Grass Valley this evening around 9:00 pm. Firefighters arrived shortly after the first reports and found a vegetation fire in heavy fuels along Squirrel Creek Road, near South Ponderosa Way.
The fire appears to have started in a transient camp, according to firefighter reports. In short order, 4 engines, a handcrew, a water tender and a dozer were on scene - with overhead personnel - and began to surround the fire.
At 10:45 pm, the fire was declared contained, it didn't grow past 1 acre in size. Crews are still on scene conducting extensive mop-up operations.

According to a news release just issued, all units were released at 1:080 am.
