August 9, 2012 - Strong high pressure will build over Northern California During the next several days and will continue over the weekend. This will result in a prolonged period of hot temperatures for the region potentially lasting into next week.

Temperatures will continue to rise gradually through the remainder of the week.

Current forecasts indicate the hottest days will be today, Friday and Saturday when highs in the Central Valley are expected to range from 105 to 110 with temperatures in the mountains in the 80s and 90s. Overnight minimum temperatures will also be warm with valley readings in the mid 60s to lower 70s with mainly 50s and 60s in the mountains. Warmer Foothill locales may see several days with overnight minimums only in the 70s.

Hot Weather Safety Tips

1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
3. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
4. Wear light weight and light colored clothing.
