During Wednesday October 1, 2008 League of Women's Voter's Forum a question was asked regarding the collaborative relationship between the City of Grass Valley and NID and what is the long term planning with regards to new development?
The short answer is yes, there is collaborative relationship between the City and Nevada Irrigation District (NID) and we have done long term planning. In 2004, Sauers Engineering, Inc. prepared a Collaboration and Partnering Study to evaluate how NID and the City can partner in providing water service to the greater Grass Valley community with greater efficiency to the benefit of all. The City and NID, I believe have both budgeted funds this fiscal year to look at implementing some of the options outlined in the Study (This work is only real useful if and/or when the North Star area is developed, which is why nothing has really happened to date). As recent as this summer, City staff and NID staff met to discuss the best ways of initiating implementation of the collaborative improvements.
On a day-to-day basis, City staff works with NID on all new development within NID's service area to ensure NID's issues are incorporated into those developments. Hopefully, this answers the question.
