Kids Set to Catch a Smile at the Pinecrest Lake Fish Fair

Pinecrest, California, (May 6, 2008) -- Summit District Ranger Karen Caldwell today announced that children up to 16 years of age accompanied by an adult, are invited to the 14th Free Pinecrest Lake Fish Fair on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Pinecrest Lake in Pinecrest, California. The event is sponsored by Pinecrest Lake Resort and Stanislaus National Forest. Anyone 16 years of age or older must have a valid fishing license to fish.

This year the Pinecrest Lake Fish Fair coincides with National Get Outdoors Day. Embraced by federal, state, and local agencies as well as organizations and recreation businesses, National Get Outdoors Day, will emphasize reaching new and first time visitors to public lands offering inspiring activities designed to motivate people to get outdoors and have fun. "What better way to enjoy the great outdoors with your kids than at the annual Pinecrest Lake Fish Fair! Fishing is a great way to have fun, learn about nature and spend time with your family", stated Caldwell.

In addition to fishing and entertainment by Bill Roberson and storytelling by Jennifer Aguirre, a variety of hands on activities will be offered focusing on angling ethics and healthy aquatic ecosystems. Special "guests" will be on hand including Smokey Bear, Frank & Frances Fish, Woodsy Owl and more! Registered participants who visit specific stations will get to "fish" for a prize. A free hot dog lunch will be provided for those children who are registered, others may purchase theirs for a $3.00 donation.

Festivities include:

7:00 to 9:00 AM Registration at Pinecrest Amphitheater
7:30 to 11:00 AM Fishing
9:00 to 11:00 AM Activities/Displays/Casting Contest
11:00 to 11:45 PM Lunch & Entertainment at Amphitheater
11:45 to Noon Presentations and Awards

Pinecrest Fish Fair is sponsored by Stanislaus National Forest and Pinecrest Lake Resort. It is supported by Lair of the Bear, Dodge Ridge, Sysco Foods, Tuolumne County Fire Dept: Pinecrest Engine, Kiwanis of Sonora, Department of Boating and Waterways, California Department of Fish and Game, Pinecrest Theatre, Pinecrest School and Stanislaus National Forest Employees Association plus many individuals.

The 14th annual Free Pinecrest Lake Fishing Celebration will be a memorable day for the entire family. Kids, bring a parent or responsible adult, fishing gear and get ready to have lots of fun! Remember, kids 16 years of age must have a valid fishing license.
