PLACERVILLE, Calif. June 20, 2013 - Laurence Crabtree was selected to be the Forest Supervisor of the Eldorado National Forest following the retirement of Kathy Hardy on June 14. He will report to his new position on July 29. Jayne Handley is the interim Acting Forest Supervisor.

Crabtree is currently the Deputy Forest Supervisor of the Plumas National Forest. His earlier leadership responsibilities include serving as District Ranger for two separate ranger districts in the Modoc National Forest and District Ranger for two Forest Service ranger districts in Nevada.

Crabtree graduated from the University of Idaho where he studied forestry and entomology, and says he continues to be fascinated with natural history. He was born in Susanville, Lassen County, and was raised on a ranch.

"I am pleased and humbled to be the Eldorado National Forest Supervisor," said Crabtree. "In my new role I intend to be a part of the community and to ensure that the Eldorado continues to move forward with the challenges and opportunities that come from caring for the land and serving people."

Laurence and his wife Denice have three grown children and four grandchildren.
