August 10, 2012 - The Incident Management Team of the Chips Fire has released the following urgent information bulletin:
"Critical fire conditions including high temperatures, gusty winds and very low humidity gave rise to extreme fire behavior on the eastern flank of the Chips Fire today beginning about 4:00 PM. Affected areas are the Mosquito Creek and Caribou Ravine.
A mandatory evacuation of Rush Creek and Seneca has been put in place by the Plumas County Sheriff's Office."
The blaze had consumed over 20,000 acres as of this morning. Due to strong southeast winds, which align perfectly with the topography of the canyons, the fire is exhibiting rapid growth.
Relative humidity is in the single digits and no measurable relief is anticipated tonight.
