NWS: Special weather statement for Donner Summit and North Lake Tahoe Basin

May 10, 2014 at 2:12 PM National Weather Service reports: Showers and thunderstorms impacting Donner Summit and the Northern Lake Tahoe Basin.

an area of showers and thunderstorms along the western Sierra Slopes will reach Donner Summit and the Northern Lake Tahoe Basin this afternoon. Snow levels will lower to 6000 feet or less with these showers and thunderstorms.

Occasional lightning...moderate to heavy snow and small hail will occur with this activity. Snow will also lower visibility to 1 mile or less at times and create slick roads especially over mountain passes above 7000 feet.

* Locations affected through 3:00 pm include: Interstate 80 between Donner Summit and the Nevada State Line...Highways 89...267...28 and 431. This includes Truckee...Tahoe City...Kings Beach and Incline Village.
