Nevada County 2013 Employee Awards

NEVADA CITY, Calif. March 12, 2013 - At today's meeting Nevada County supervisors officiated as masters of ceremony for the annual Nevada County Values Our Employees awards.

This year's winner is first of all, very much appreciated by the staff in the office. This person is seen as an encourager and able to keep up morale during trying times. Some of the accomplishments of our winner are serving as Chair of a center that has developed a host of activities to support the homeless in the area, including providing meals for the individuals, providing showers, clothing and a connection to community services in Nevada and Placer Counties.

A strategy to address key health issues of a large sector of our County has been implemented. This means primary medical care needs, immunizations, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and support for ethnic minorities' health care needs, has been put in place. Another accomplishment is the development of a regional Employment Center which supports English and Spanish-speaking clientele in finding jobs.

This year's winner is Glen Harelson, Truckee Program Manager, Health and Human Services Agency.

This year's award winner is an active participant on the County's safety committee. This person takes this job very seriously and communicates key information to all people in the department. This person takes the initiative to contact Facilities to ensure building issues are addressed. This year's winner goes to the trouble of actually shoveling snow at the building's entrances.

Annette Le Francois, Executive Secretary in Behavioral Health, is this year's Safety Recognition Award winner.

This year's team of the year is recognized for its commitment to public safety. Their efforts ensured that highly sensitive criminal investigations were completed thoroughly so that jury trials were conducted smoothly and successfully. Their work in fraud investigation has saved the local taxpayers thousands of dollars. Their conduct was unimpeachable and a fine representation of what it means to be a part of the County's law enforcement community.

This year's creative employee of the year is an employee who is always looking for better and smarter ways to accomplish the tasks at hand.

As the person who is responsible for protecting the County's interest in bankruptcy cases, this employee has gone the extra mile to learn and understand the complicated laws surrounding this field. This employee thinks out of the box in order to do her job better.

Kim Nuner, Senior Accounting Assistant from Treasurer & Tax Collector, is this year's Creative Employee of the Year winner.

This year's Dedicated Employee of the Year has the type of job that doesn't end at 5 p.m., and when this employee is called out at night or on the weekends, there is NEVER a complaint. This employee is one individual who runs a large function by leveraging staff and resources across the County to make it work. This year's winner helped keep the County afloat during communications outages in January, tornado landings in Higgins Corner, and winter flooding events. This employee ensured that there is a system in place for members of the Board and others to keep apprised of critical events.

This year's Dedicated Employee of the Year is Vic Ferrera, Office of Emergency Services Program Manager.

This year's winner comes to work energized and enthusiastic each day. This employee briefs staff in an encouraging, uplifting tone, setting the way for others to also be enthusiastic. This employee motivates staff and others even during times when emotions run high.

This year's winner organized a large-scale training that was well attended due to this employee's infectious enthusiasm for the project. Not only was the training successful, but the County generated the equivalent of over $1,000 in free admission to the event.

This year's winner is Hope Claar, Group Supervisor II, Probation Department.

This year's supervisor of the year has provided exemplary leadership to a staff of 10 who run a 24/7 operation. This year's supervisor of the year managed during a time of consolidation of services among various agencies. During the consolidation of services, challenges were faced: workload increased three fold, staff changed, etc. But through the efforts of this year's winner, a nearly seamless transition to a regional center was achieved. This center improves services to County citizens and saves tax payer dollars.

This year's supervisor of the year is Andrew Trygg, Communications Manager for the Sheriff's Office.
