June 22, 2011 - Nostalgic Dinner Dance, Vintage Aircraft, Aerial Demonstrations and more return to the Nevada County Airport as AirFest 2011 takes to the skies on Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9.
The fun begins Friday evening with 40's and 50's themed Ron Davis Orchestra performing inside the two spacious hangars of Alpine Aviation and Sierra Mountain Aviation. Outside will be World War II airplanes and an ultra-rare collection of vintage vehicles including the "Monroe Special", the original Bonneville record setting motorcycle that inspired the movie, "World's Fastest Indian". Enjoy an All-American tri-tip or chicken dinner and beverages including fine wines from Nevada City Winery preceding the patriotic dance in honor of our armed forces and emergency services. Added features include thundering warbird fly-bys during the social hour and two large hot air balloons to be illuminated at sunset in a spectacular blend of excitement, nostalgia and romance!
On Saturday, many more rare and exotic airplanes begin arriving at 8:00 AM within view of the traditional pancake breakfast hosted by EAA Chapter #1175. Locally built kit planes, air racers, antique and classic aircraft, augment World War Two P-51 Mustangs, Hawker Sea Fury, Corsair, T-28s, AT-6s and many other warbirds. Two thrilling appearances of the Patriots L-39 Jet Team, airplane rides and radio-controlled model airplanes round out the flying demonstrations, while classic auto displays, kid's activities, food and retail vendors and open house at the U.S.F.S / CalFire Grass Valley Air Attack Base make for a full day of fun for the entire family.
