Nevada County Cannabis Cultivation Ordinance Subject of KVMR Radio Show

Attorney Jeff Lake guest on Cannabis Crusades Friday, Jan. 11

By: Americans for Safe Access - Nevada County (ASA-NC)

January 8, 2013 - The Cannabis Cultivation Ordinance will be the primary topic on KVMR's show, "The Cannabis Crusades," Friday, January 11 from 12:00 - 1:00pm. The show, hosted by Americans for Safe Access - Nevada County Chair, Patricia Smith and Gaynell Rogers, Media Relations and Special Projects Manager for Harborside Health Center, is dedicated to providing truthful dialogue about the discrepancies that surround current marijuana laws.

Attorney Jeff Lake will be on hand for the entire show. Lake successfully negotiated a mutually acceptable Cultivation Ordinance in neighboring Yuba County between the local Americans for Safe Access chapter, the Grower's Association and County officials. The revised Ordinance was approved 4 - 1 by the Yuba Board of Supervisors after County Staff unanimously recommended its approval. Lake will discuss how the lessons learned during five months of negotiations in Yuba County can be used to streamline the process here.

Americans for Safe Access - Nevada County has hired Attorney Lake to represent them in their lawsuit against the County's Cultivation Ordinance which replaced state sanctioned plant counts with very restrictive square foot limits that dictate how large an area a medical marijuana garden can encompass. Lake has suggested that mediation could be used to resolve the differences between his clients and the County rather than wasting more money in litigation.

County Counsel has taken the matter under advisement and will be holding a closed session with the Board of Supervisors on January 22, 2013, to discuss pending litigation. "Exactly what they are discussing is secret, but we hope it's the merits of mediation," stated Lake.
