January 24, 2014 - On Wednesday, January 22, 2014, the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) facilitated a meeting to discuss the current California drought conditions and how it impacts Nevada County. The Nevada County Agricultural Commissioner Jeffrey Pylman and representatives from the Farm Advisor Division, Nevada Irrigation District, Truckee Donner Public Utility District, National Weather Service, Fire Safe Council of Nevada County, the City of Grass Valley, Nevada County Airport, the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the Placer County Office of Emergency Services were in attendance.
Topics of discussion included the current and forecasted weather conditions and the impact that an extended drought condition will have on water storage levels, the agricultural and livestock based economy and water usage for treated and untreated water customers.
This initial meeting was a precursor to monthly Drought Planning meetings. These meetings will enable participating agencies to share information that will assist them in making future decisions that may impact the residents of Nevada County. In addition, Nevada County OES will create a website that will give the general public access to the most current Drought Planning information available from state agencies, local jurisdictions, and special districts.
