Nevada Union Drama Department presents "The Wizard of Oz"

We are off to see the Wizard! The wonderful Wizard of Oz!

By: Rob Metcalfe, NU Theatre Department

January 15, 2013 - The Nevada Union Drama Department is excited to present "The Wizard of Oz", a charming and wildly popular musical written by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics from the MGM motion picture by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.

Set amidst the dust bowl era, a curious teen dreamer, Dorothy Gale (played by Hollie Mudd and Ramie Robertshaw) gets caught in an unusual tornado which whisks her away to the Land of Oz, a magical world far from her simple life in Kansas. Once there, Dorothy is sent on a fantastic journey to find the wonderful Wizard of Oz, the only person, she is told, who might help her return home. On the way she finds a few helpful characters to accompany her: a Scarecrow wishing for a brain (played by Cooper Hardwick and Cabe Chittock), a Tin man longing for a heart (played by Noah Sherry and Lars Montanaro) and a very cowardly lion in need of some courage (played by Reid Carroll and Chandler Hughes). Unfortunately, the Wicked Witch of the West (played by Maddie Fournier and Leya VanDoren) wants Dorothy's newly acquired ruby red slippers, and she will stop at nothing to get them, thwarting Dorothy and her companions at every turn.

Brought to life as a remake of the 1939 award winning motion picture, this much loved musical will include a full live orchestra, elaborate costumes, and detailed sets. This outstanding production of the breathtaking musical "The Wizard of Oz" is certain to wow all ages young and old and is not to be missed!
