Jan. 30, 2012 - North Lake Tahoe will have plenty of sunshine this week with highs topping out at 45 degrees and lows dipping to 21 degrees – making for great skiing and riding.
Resorts and Towns' Update: North Lake Tahoe's ski product continues to get even better. Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe in Incline Village is planning a $23.5 million renovation over the next 10 years, which includes additional lifts, snowmaking improvements and facility enhancements.
All North Lake Tahoe downhill and cross-country resorts are open with Spooner Lake Cross Country, just outside Incline Village, opening Friday, January 27.
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, January 31, 6-9 p.m., when the Squaw Valley Institute, in partnership with the High Fives Foundation, will welcome The Push Team, including Grant Korgan, the first adaptive athlete to trek to the South Pole. Tickets are $15/person. The event will be held at Bar One in Olympic Valley.
Arts for the Schools presents the Metta Quintet Friday, February 3, 6:30 p.m., at the Cal Neva Resort in Crystal Bay. Metta Quintet, esteemed jazz musicians from New York, will share the stage with 30 local student musicians from Lake Tahoe. Tickets are $15/adult and $5/child, military and adult over 65 years.
Northstar California welcomes the Burton Mountain Festival Friday, February 3 through Sunday, February 5 with guests enjoying free on-snow entertainment, including Burton 2012 product demonstrations, live music, sponsor giveaways, mini park for the smallest snowboarders and an amateur snowboard contest.
On Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl Ski Resort will host it first-ever Environmental Awareness Day Saturday, February 4, on the Judah Lodge deck, with local environmental organizations and services providing tips and ideas on how to live a greener life. Businesses participating are Sierra Green Builder's Association, Sierra Nevada Journeys, Envirolution, 3 Degrees and the Sierra Watershed.
California State Park Rangers will lead a Full Moon Snowshoe Hike Saturday, February 4, 7 p.m., on Tahoe's West Shore at Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. The tour explores the natural and cultural history around the Hellman-Ehrman estate. Cost is $20/adult and $5/child under 12 and includes parking and snowshoe rentals if needed. A beginner's snowshoe clinic is at 6:3 p.m.
In Incline Village, Diamond Peak Ski Resort hosts its popular Last Tracks Saturday, February 4 at 4 p.m. Guests take the last chairlift up to Snowflake Lodge and enjoy wine tasting and appetizers before skiing or boarding down a groomed run at sunset. Must be 21 years or older. Tickets are $29/adult.
Squaw Valley, Dynafit and Tahoe City-based Alpenglow Sports will host California's first-ever European-inspired Nachtspektakel, a traditional ski touring event Saturday, February 4 that takes place that evening. Participants tour uphill at Squaw, followed by food and drinks. Cost is $40/person.
Get a great workout and enjoy some of North Lake Tahoe's finest, organic and sustainable cuisine at Tahoe Cross Country's Full Moon Cross Country Yurt Dinner Saturday, February 4, 6-9 p.m., in Tahoe City with popular local chef Douglas Dale of Wolfdale's Cuisine Unique. Tickets are $65/adult.
The Tahoe Rim Trail Associations hosts a free Full Moon Snowshoe Trek Tuesday, February 7, 5-7 p.m., at Tahoe Meadows off the Mt. Rose Highway (Highway 431). This distance is 2 miles and level of difficulty is rated easy.
Experience the swing and rhythm of the 1940s Friday, February 10, 7-9:30 p.m., with the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band and their performance titled "In The Mood" at Granlibakken Lodge in Tahoe City. Tickets are $20/person and include hearty appetizers. Attendees are encouraged to don their best 1940s garb.
The North Lake Tahoe Express daily airport shuttle service is available to and from North Lake Tahoe and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The shuttle runs from 3:30 a.m. until midnight. Fees are $40 per person, one-way, and $75 round trip. Discounts are available for groups of two or more. Reservations are required and can be made four hours in advance.
