I have been around a long time. Long enough to remember your pale blue 1974 Plymouth Satellite, that you dated Linda Ronstadt and that you personally created art councils in counties throughout California. Thank you, Governor Brown. It was really getting stuffy down in Sacramento.
I also remember when you, Allen Ginsberg, Terry Riley, Gary Snyder and others bought land on the North San Juan Ridge.
That's how I know that when you see Malakoff Diggins and the South Yuba River State Park included on State Parks' closure list, you most likely have personally been to these places. Unlike dozens of luckless State Parks on the closure list, you have surely visited Malakoff and the South Yuba and know at least a bit of their splendor and character.
Malakoff Diggins and the South Yuba River State Park don't belong on the closure list. I urge you to work with the South Yuba River Citizen's League (SYRCL) in finding a way to keep these irreplaceable State Parks open and protected from catastrophic wildfire, vandalism and environmental degradation.
There's merit to memory and conservation—looking backward, over our shoulder and ahead to future generations.
In a few weeks or days more than 5,000 signed letters asking you to keep these State Parks open will come to you from SYRCL. I urge you to pay special attention to their request.
Please remember the Yuba. Work with SYRCL to keep Malakoff Diggins and the South Yuba River State Park open.
Respectfully,
Pamela Biery
