Over 450 Lightning Strikes in NorCal - 65 Lightining Strikes on Tahoe National Forest

NEVADA CITY, Calif. July 25, 2010 - Approximately 450 lightning strikes hit Northern California on Saturday. 65 of those strikes landed on the Tahoe National Forest.

According the Northern California ONCC, several small fires are burning on the Plumas National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, Lassen National Park, and Northern CA BLM, as well as the Carson City District of BLM and the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest.

The Sierravilla Ranger District on the TNF is reporting three very small fires.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning until 6:00 pm tonight. They also report a critical thunderstorm pattern.

The eastern side of the Sierra Nevada, and portions of western Nevada are being hit by lightning again today.

- Potato Fire 5 miles southeast of Bridgeport CA.

- Constantia, near Doyle, CA.

- Rock Creek, north of Gerlach NV

- Roberts Fire, near Hallelujah Junction and Long Valley, NV.
