NEVADA CITY Calif. February 6, 2012 - Prescribed burn activity is ongoing in anticipation of Tuesday's rain event. The Tahoe National Forest is burning at total of 25 acres of hand piles in the Pendola area. Smoke is visible in the North San Juan, Nevada City and Penn Valley area.
Fuels Management, broadly defined, refers to the reduction or elimination of fuels in wildland environments that may contribute to hazardous wildfires. These actions are referred to as a prescribed burn or underburn.
The Tahoe NF has a very active fuels management program, treating thousands of acres of vegetation every year to reduce the fire hazard to woodlands and communities adjacent to National Forest lands.>
