RSVP Current Volunteer Opportunties

February 1, 2013 Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. You can make a difference by volunteering right here in your community. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.

Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County non-profits, public agencies, and schools. For persons 55 and over, accident, liability, and excess auto insurance are provided and limited mileage reimbursement is available. RSVP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored locally by the Area 4 Agency on Aging.

Hospice Helpers

Do you have skills and time to share with patients and families? There are many ways to get involved: office & clerical, gift & thrift volunteer, musician, massage therapy, compassionate care home hospitality, and more. Training dates are: April 8, 10, 15 & 17. Call RSVP for details.

Welcome Baby Program

The Welcome Baby volunteer is responsible for visiting postpartum moms at the hospital and handing out and explaining required information connecting families to the community.It is required to become a volunteer at the hospital. Training is provided. It is helpful to be knowledgeable about infant development and breastfeeding and enjoy continually meeting new people.

Maintenance Director for Local Food Bank

A person is needed who can respond to property needs by completing repairs themselves or soliciting the needed expertise. Some items include: clogged drains, shelves built, storage addition, painting and general upkeep of the aging facility. There is also a once a year workday to coordinate. Volunteer help in this position will allow the food bank to better utilize their money which comes completely from donations, allowing them to buy more food for hungry families.

Volunteer Coordinator for Local Homeless Shelter

Do you enjoy working with people and helping empower volunteers to be effective in their roles? This non-profit needs your help to continue to grow and thrive as they move toward the future. The volunteer coordinator has many responsibilities and works directly with the Executive Director. Please consider exploring this opportunity as it is a much needed position. Pamper Parlor or Ceramics Helper

A local convalescent facility is looking for volunteer help painting ceramics pieces on Tuesday mornings. Also, a Pamper Parlor volunteer is needed to wash and set hair for seniors.

Citizen Review Team Member

Citizen Review team members assist in the assessment of non-profit agencies that apply for partnerships and funding from United Way of Nevada County. As a CRT member you will go with your team to visit 4-5 agencies in April. During these visits you will tour the facility, and learn more about how they operate. You will be reporting these findings via a questionnaire to the United Way Board of Directors. The time commitment total is approx. 10-15 hours from April 1-12th.

Resource Assistant

Do you enjoy internet research? A volunteer with good computer and phone skills is needed to help research local resources for a local telephone assistance program. Time commitment is flexible, however 3-4 hours in the afternoon preferably twice a week is desirable. Your help will result in allowing community members to better access local resources.

"Empty Bowl" Event Help

Saturday, March 2nd is the annual "Empty Bowl" soup supper for Hospitality House. Assistance is needed the day of the event: kitchen help, bussing tables, preparing bread baskets, clean up and more. If you would like to be a part of a wonderful annual community event benefitting the homeless shelter, please call RSVP.

Be a Match for the Business Ignitor Program

This grass roots local non-profit helps creates real Nevada County jobs by educating and encouraging local entrepreneurs. Volunteer help is needed in a variety of areas including social media and marketing, fund development, class registration coordinator, administrative and clerical assistance. Computer skills are required.

Be a "Happy Taxi" Driver

Volunteer drivers are needed to help transport seniors and people with disabilities to doctor appointments, Sunday activities, etc. for Gold Country Telecare. Volunteers use their own personal car and are reimbursed at .55 per mile. This is a much needed service that truly helps our Nevada County neighbors. Time commitment is flexible, so if you have some free time and can help, please call us at RSVP for more information.

Lawyer Referral Service

A file clerk is needed to help sort and record files and help with record keeping and organizing attorney files. Good handwriting and organizational skills are required. The Lawyer Referral program is a nonprofit that helps connect potential clients to lawyers. Volunteer Shifts can be once a week or more between 9-12pm or 1-3 pm Mon-Fri. The office location is on N. Auburn St. in downtown Grass Valley.
