By: Truckee Police Dept.

January 19, 2013 - Ice skating is a popular winter sport as well as great outdoor exercise. However, ice skating outdoors present additional challenges, as you deal with cold temperatures and the ever-changing quality of ice.

Testing the ice is especially important. Never assume that outdoor ice is safe and practice sound judgment before walking or skating on frozen lakes and ponds. If you decide the ice is safe, never skate alone and always have at least two people present.

Donner Lake can be extremely inconsistent regarding ice conditions and safety. Please be safe if you decide to walk or skate on Donner Lake.
