Updated: Snow prompts chain controls, closures on Hwy 20, I-80

I-80 all westbound traffic is being turned around due to multiple spinouts in various locations.

November 8, 2012 at 3:39 PM - Snow levels continue to lower tonight into Friday morning down to around 2500 feet with some local areas getting snow or a rain/snow mix down towards 2000 feet by early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Chain controls for Highway 20 from Vista Point to Interstate 80. Maximum speed is 25 mph. Winter driving conditions are expected through the night.

Interstate 80:

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 1 mi east of Baxter (Placer Co) to the Donner Lake Interchange (Nevada Co)

For Eastbound Traffic:

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from 1 mi east of Baxter (Placer Co) to the Donner Lake Interchange (Nevada Co)

For Westbound Traffic:

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from the Donner Lake Interchange (Nevada Co) to 3 mi east of Gold Run (Placer Co)

Eastbound trucks are being screened at Applegate (Placer Co)

- Drivers must have maximum chains in their possession in order to proceed

- Permit loads are prohibited

Westbound trucks are being screened at Prosser Rd in Truckee (Nevada Co)

- Drivers must have maximum chains in their possession in order to proceed

- Permit loads are prohibited
