Squaw Valley USA to Host the Ultimate 4th of July Weekend
Featuring Skiing and Riding, Big Head Todd & the Monsters Concert and the Lake Cushing Crossing

By: Squaw Valley USA

June 16, 2011 - As Americans fire up their backyard barbeques across the country, Squaw Valley will be hosting a sizzling 4th of July Weekend jam packed with summer skiing and riding, concerts, barbeques and pool parties. With record-breaking season snowfall now totaling 810 inches, Squaw Valley currently boasts a 14 foot base and fully snow-covered peaks.

The party kicks off on Friday night with a free concert by Stung, a Police tribute band, and continues all weekend long with DJ pool parties and daily barbeques at the High Camp Pool & Hot Tub, live music at Gold Coast and the Fine Arts & Crafts Festival Friday through Sunday in the Village at Squaw Valley.

Squaw Valley will operate six lifts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. across 2,000 skiable acres on Saturday, July 2 through Monday, July 4, weather permitting. Lifts scheduled to run include the Funitel, Gold Coast Express, Shirley Lake Express, Links, the Cable Car and, recently added, Siberia Express. Lift tickets for 4th of July weekend will be $49 per day for adults and $12 for kids 12 and under. Skiing and riding will be free for 2011-12 Squaw Valley season passholders, and all skiers and riders will get a free commemorative 4th of July T-Shirt on Monday, July 4, while supplies last.

To truly make this Independence Day weekend one to remember, Squaw Valley has added a free Big Head Todd and the Monsters concert and a fireworks display to weekend line-up on July 3. Widely known for their legendary live shows and alternative blues-rock sound, Big Head Todd and the Monsters will take to the KT Sundeck stage for a free, all-ages concert starting a 7:45 p.m. Directly following the concert, Squaw Valley's fireworks display will kick off at 9:15 p.m. with the best viewing from the KT Sundeck and The Village at Squaw Valley.

Last but certainly not least, 4th of July weekend brings the 21st Annual Lake Cushing Crossing, the resort's acclaimed pond skimming event. This wildly entertaining competition challenges participants to cross the vast and chilly waters of Lake Cushing on skis, a snowboard or any ski or snowboard-based vessel. The event, known for its colossal crashes, hilarious costumes, and ultra-creative pond skimming contraptions, kicks off at 2 p.m. at the Cushing Pond.

"It's a rare treat to get to ski or ride on the 4th of July, but this weekend is about much more than skiing," said Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley's President and CEO. "With Big Head Todd and the Monsters, live music around the mountain, barbeques, pool parties, and the Cushing Crossing—this is truly the ultimate 4th of July weekend."

In honor of Independence Day, active members of the military are invited to come ski and ride July 2 through July 4 free of charge.

Squaw Valley has extended their season pass deadline to secure the lowest rates to Friday, June 17. Adult season passes start at just $399 and include free skiing and riding 4th of July weekend in addition to a host of other perks.
