January 8, 2013 - These are the results of the special election held today to elect a State Senator for District 4 to fill out the remaining 2-year term. The district encompasses all or parts of Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity and Yuba counties.

50,887 registered voters in Nevada County were eligible to cast their ballots.

Nevada County Results

11:53 pm - The elections office will begin the 21-day official canvass period on Thursday. During that time, mail ballots dropped off at polling places, damaged ballots and provisional ballots will be counted. The statewide turnout (12 counties) is expected to be very low - however with the votes counted tonight Nielsen is winning by a comfortable margin.

Apologies for the late update, Nevada County's wireless access went offline at 10 pm.

10:25 pm - Final update from Nevada County for election night.

15,836 ballots counted, a 31.12% voter turnout.

At 9:41 pm, 15,228 ballots have been counted, making for a 29.93% turnout so far.

First results at 8:12pm for Nevada County.
