NORTH LAKE TAHOE, California/Nevada Dec. 14, 2009 - A powerful storm rolled into the Lake Tahoe region last Friday and didn't quit until it had dumped 5.5 feet of new snow at the ski resorts' upper elevations, with eight feet of snow falling in the last seven days.

"These are absolutely some of the best early winter conditions we've ever had," said Tourism Director Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. "The past two storms have really set us up for the holidays and a long ski and board season."

And Tahoe lodging properties are reaping the benefits. According to Director of Marketing Les Pedersen at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, they are pacing 25 percent ahead of last December in leisure sales. Tahoe Mountain Resorts Lodging at the Northstar Village is on track for a record setting December. At the Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee, owner Patty Baird is anticipating a holiday sellout by week's end.

Bluebird skies and all that powder are making for phenomenal ski conditions today, with most resorts open, including Alpine Meadows, Boreal Mountain, Donner Ski Ranch, Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Squaw Valley USA and Sugar Bowl. Opening December 17 is Diamond Peak, with Granlibakken Resort, Ski Homewood and Tahoe Donner opening December 18. Soda Springs opens their doors December 19.

See firsthand the challenging terrain and big snow that has made Lake Tahoe a legendary ski destination in the new Warren Miller film, titled Dynasty, showing this month at theaters across the country.
