Town of Paradise activates emergency operations center

By: Joanna Gutierrez, Town Clerk

Paradise Calif. July 8, 2008 - There is significant ash falling on the Town of Paradise as a result of the Camp Fire that is burning off of Highway 70 in the Concow area.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office has issued an "Immediate Threat Evacuation Advisory" for the community of Concow and Yankee Hill on the north side of Highway 70 from Truex Road to Rim Road. The Camp Fire has moved south towards Concow Road and is now being influenced by the east winds. The fire is now a threat to the community of Concow and Yankee Hill north of Hwy. 70 from Truex Road to Rim Road.

The and is closely monitoring the situation and will be providing updates throughout the day.

All roads in Paradise are open. Emergency signage is staged along the roadways in the event that fire conditions change.

As weather conditions continue to transition to be warmer and drier, the potential for increased fire activity remains. Residents who live in or near an affected area should continue to maintain a heightened state of awareness as long as there is fire actively burning. All citizens are encouraged to have a personal safety plan for themselves and for their families. A disaster preparedness plan is posted on the Town of Paradise website at www.townofparadise.com. Click on the public safety menu button, and then on Disaster Preparedness. This plan was created with the citizens of Paradise in mind.

For information you may call the Town of Paradise at 872-6291; 872-5951; or Cal Fire at 538-7826 or log onto the Cal Fire website at www.fire.ca.gov. Information will also be posted on the Town of Paradise at www.townofparadise.com and recorded on the Town's AM 1500 radio station.
