GRASS VALLEY, Calif. January 17, 2013 - Western Sierra Medical Clinic (WSMC) invites community members living with chronic health conditions to register for a free 6-week Healthier Living Workshop Series, beginning Tuesday, January 29.
The program is grant-funded and designed to help those living with any type of chronic health condition. Chronic conditions are generally of long duration and slow progression, and may include: heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, MS, celiac disease, ALS, arthritis, and chronic pain.
Healthier Living classes are held on Tuesdays, from 10 am – 1 pm at Miners Family Health Center from January 29 through March 5.
Participants will cover topics including: pain and symptom management, the effects of appropriate exercise and nutrition, dealing with difficult emotions, relaxation techniques, and tips for communicating and problem-solving with health care professionals. Classes include ample time for participant interaction and shared learning experiences, as well as the creation of weekly personal action plans.
The “Healthier Living” program was designed by Stanford University and is made possible at WSMC through a grant from the California Collaborative for Chronic Disease Prevention.
“This class provides participants with confidence, skills and information that can help improve their everyday lives as well as their long-term health,” says co-instructor Joanna Snider-Lipa, LCSW at Western Sierra Medical Clinic.
Every participant receives the companion book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, and a guided relaxation tape. Pre-registration is required and can be made by contacting Chris Grace at (530) 274-9762.
