Apr. 3, 2009 - A delivery concept that has thrived in more urban places has finally made its way to Nevada County. Waiters On The Go delivers food from 15 Nevada County restaurants to residents in the cities of Grass Valley and Nevada City, and for a slightly higher fee will go to Penn Valley, Alta Sierra, Lake Wildwood and even Cascade Shores.

Co-owner Lex Madden said he worked for a company in San Diego that delivered restaurant meals and thought it was an idea that was suited to Nevada County.

"I saw all these great restaurants and no delivery," Madden said. "Some restaurants are struggling in this recession and this might give them a boost."

Waiters On The Go employs 5 people right now, with 2 others on call as needed. Dispatchers take calls from a small office on Colfax Highway.

Madden says his company can deliver to corporate events, groups, offices or individuals who want the ease of not leaving their homes.

Twelve restaurants signed up in time to be printed in the company's menu guide, and 3 more have signed up since. The following restaurants are participating:

Afternoon Deli; Amigos and Co.; Beach Hut Deli; BriarPatch Co-op; Diego's; Ike's Quarter Cafe; India Oven; Lefty's Grill; Sensations Bistro and Bakery (formerly Hollywood Sweets); Summer Thyme's; Thai Kitchen; and The Northridge.

Restaurants that were added after the menu guide was printed are The Owl; Charley's Cafe; and Sergio's. Waiters On The Go will also deliver from the Cappuchino Factory in the Brunswick Basin.

Delivery is based on zones. Zone 1, which is $10, is the city limits of Grass Valley and Nevada City. Zone 2 goes as far as Cascade Shores and delivery is $15. Zone 3 goes to Penn Valley, Lake Wildwood and Alta Sierra and is $20.

Waiters On The Go started business Thursday (April 2) and can be reached at 477-2899. Its menus are available online at www.waitersonthegoonline.com and at the featured restaurants. Its hours are Sunday though Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Delivery takes from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how busy each restaurant is.

Co-owner Madden can't take advantage of his own company, however. He lives outside Pike, a non delivery area.
