Winter Events Create Sierra Resort's Celebrated Vibe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. December 30, 2008 - Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort will host a line-up of events this winter that embrace snowboard culture, telemark skiers and the legendary chilled out vibe that comes with the best beach party on snow.

Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam - January 3, 2009

This amateur snowboard contest is tons of fun for kids of all ages. Sierra Resort is the first stop on the series that lasts all season and travels all over North America. The rails challenge snowboarders to get creative and impress the judges to make it to the final competition in late spring where the prize purse can get upwards of $20,000.

40th Anniversary Celebration - January 9, 2008

To celebrate Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort's 40th anniversary of winter operations, we'll offer a specially priced $40 lift ticket for purchase online and give all Vertical Plus members that ski/ride on this day 40,000 feet. The first 40 people who purchase tickets at the resort that morning will also receive a commemorative T-shirt. There will be a Skiing through the Decades demonstration by Ski School and, beginning at 3:00 p.m., the Sierra Pub will top off the celebration by offering food & drink specials, a live DJ playing tunes from 1968, and footage from the early days of Sierra Ski Ranch.

Open Circuit and Closed Circuit - January 31 and March 28, 2009

These two events are Sierra Resort's grassroots competition series. Incorporating both slopestyle features and the South Shore's only Superpipe, the events attract skiers and snowboarders from all over Northern California to shred some of the best park features in Lake Tahoe. Prizes galore from the hottest ski and snowboard companies as well as cash prizes make these two events the most popular grassroots events in the Tahoe basin.

Nitro/Von Zipper Highlander Slope Jam - March 14, 2009

This snowboard contest is open to riders of all ages. The format is one-on-one, mano-y-mano, until one snowboarder stands victorious. Cash and prizes from sponsors including Nitro and Von Zipper will be given to the top riders.

Spring Fiesta - March and April, 2009

A celebration of sunny days that includes Spring Break College Weeks, the spring Women's Camp, the 3rd annual Buckle Up Big Air, Easter festivities, and the 2nd annual Salsa Showdown in West Bowl. Springtime at Sierra Resort is magical with warm days, unending sunshine, umbrella drinks, and the best beach party on snow.

Billabong Flaunt It - March 15, 2009

Hosted by Jamie Anderson, the top female snowboarder in the world and Sierra Resort Elite Team Rider, this all women amateur slopestyle and rail contest is in a jam format so the competitors can cheer each other on. With a prize purse of $1,500 plus hot new gear from Billabong and partners, this contest is one in a seven-stop tour of North America. The winner of each stop will receive a cash prize plus travel arrangements and accommodations to the final contest in late spring.

Telegrass, April 4 & 5, 2009

Sierra Resort's homegrown telemark festival celebrates free heels, bluegrass music and great local brews. The telemark clinics and equipment demonstrations are the main event while several bluegrass bands from around the region keep the party going long after the chair lifts shut down for the day. Beer tasting from regional breweries round out the weekend. Telemark Skier Magazine recently rated Sierra Resort as one of the top 5 resorts in the West for freeheel skiers.
