By: Society of American Foresters

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. June 17, 2013 - The Sacramento-Tahoe Chapter of the Society of American Foresters will host an educational forestry field tour on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Sagehen Creek Field Station located near Truckee, California. The public is invited to attend to learn more about current research on forest management, wildfire mitigation and wildlife habitat conservation.

Presenters include Jeff Brown, Director of Sagehen Creek Field Station. The tour will begin with an overview of the research field station and visit to a treatment plot that has been implemented along with an area marked for future treatment. Jeff is also actively involved with the Truckee River Watershed Council. Scott Conway, District Vegetation Management Officer with the Tahoe National Forest, Truckee River Ranger District will present a brief synopsis of the projects history, the science that informed project decisions, as well as how those decisions were tested and then modeled.

The tour runs from 10:00am to 4:00pm and reservations are required due to restricted public access. Sagehen Creek Field Station & the Sagehen Experimental Forest are research and teaching facilities of the University of California at Berkeley's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Berkeley Natural History Museums & the U.C. The Field Station was established in 1951 with the signing of a long-term special use permit with the USDA Forest Service. Sagehen serves as the hub of a much broader network of regional research areas known as the Central Sierra Field Research Stations.
