Second suspect in custody after high speed pursuit

SACRAMENTO, Calif. January 3, 2017 – A pursuit of a vehicle possibly linked to yesterday’s armed robbery at a smoke shop in Grass Valley ended in Sacramento just before 2 pm. CHP PIO Greg Tassone has confirmed a second suspect is now in custody, a wide search of the area from air and ground in an attempt to locate one more white male adult suspect is ongoing.

The chase started in Grass Valley around noon, with Grass Valley Police initiating the pursuit. Following a mutual aid request from GVPD, both Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies and CHP joined the chase.

The suspect vehicle left Grass Valley, exceeding 80 mph on Hwy 20 towards Yuba City and Marysville with the suspects at times driving wrong-way on the freeways. CHP was using multiple aircraft and were clearing the freeways/highways of other drivers and vehicles during the pursuit to keep them safe, said Tassone.

The three suspects abandoned their vehicle near Truxel Road in Sacramento and fled on foot. Two are now in custody. More details to follow.
