September 27, 2016 at 3:25 PM The suspect, described as a Hispanic Male Adult, 6ft tall and 280 lbs stole a car in Vallejo, driving up Hwy 20 this morning. He then allegedly stole a white Durango from a Washington resident. He was seen firing shots in the air, and drove by CHP patrol cars escorting heavy equipment to the bridge construction site. The patrol cars went into pursuit.

As he was driving at a high rate of speed through town, a person yelled at him to slow down and he fired more shots. He drove about a mile onto Maybert Road, crashing through the gate and finally crashed the car.

The suspect then broke into a garage and stole an ATV. Rather than opening the garage door, he crashed through it and a short time later crashed the ATV. The suspect took off on foot and has not been located.

At this point, the active search has been suspended. NCSO Captain Schmidt requests that any sightings be reported to 911. The weapon has not been recovered and there is no ID on the suspect available at this time.

September 27, 2016 at 2:55 PM CHP PIO Greg Tassone has confirmed that the search is still ongoing as of 20 minutes ago. The helicopter is overhead and will remain on scene. Deputies searched the cabins in the vicinity of the crashed ATV and are pursuing additional leads.

WASHINGTON, Calif. September 27, 2016 – A white male, possibly wearing red clothes, is the focus of a search in the Town of Washington. The suspect allegedly stole a car from a local resident, then drove through town and fired some shots.

Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies and CHP, assisted by a helicopter, responded to the incident. The suspect reportedly crashed the stolen vehicle through a gate on Maybert Road which is closed due to construction work on the bridge leading across the South Yuba.

NCSO Captain Paul Schmidt stated the search has been underway for several hours and law enforcement was searching nearby cabins. He also said radio communications are hampered by the absence of any repeaters, the CHP helicopter is relaying information sporadically.

Washington locals, posting on Facebook, reported the suspect stole an ATV from a residence and attempted to flee. A report that the suspect was surrounded and has been arrested is unconfirmed at this time.
