In February 2005 Emgold Mining Corporation, a junior mining company from Canada, submitted its application to the City of Grass Valley, Calif., to reopen the Idaho-Maryland Mine, which closed in 1956. Should the mine open, it will reach full production in 2017 and close around 2027.

Editor's Note: In March 2006, the City of Grass Valley, in an effort to facilitate public participation in its ongoing environmental review of the proposed mine, has posted an Idaho-Maryland Project Public Documents Page on the city's website, available here. Interested parties can access a complete database of downloadable maps, reports, plates, photographs, technical studies, and all public documentation on Emgold's application to reopen the mine.
