Washington, DC Apr. 2, 2009 - The United States Senate today unanimously approved an amendment by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to incentivize child care for our families through improved tax credits.
Senator Boxer said, "In this tough economy, America's families need every penny to meet their household needs, including the increased costs of child care. By including my amendment in the Budget Resolution, we are moving toward giving meaningful tax relief to our middle class and addressing inadequacies in our current child care tax policy."
Earlier this year, Senator Boxer introduced legislation to enhance the Dependent and Child Care Tax Credit to 35-50 percent of expenses up to $6,000 for one child and $12,000 for two or more children, make the tax credit refundable, and increase incentives for employer-provided child care.
The Boxer amendment accepted today lays the groundwork to move this legislation forward and make child care more affordable for America's families.
