The Sugar Fire is fully contained. Crews are still present in the area and performing mop-up duties today, Sunday May 12, 2019. The Sugar Fire is located South-East of Sugar Pine Reservoir, South of Parker Flat OHV Staging Area on the American River Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest. The Sugar Fire is under jurisdiction of the U.S. Forest Service.

Sugar Pine Road (Forest Road 10) is now open to the public.

The cause of the Sugar Fire is still under investigation.

Closures: Loop Two, and OHV trail, will remain effectively closed due to effects of the Sugar Fire. Closure signage is on site.

Update from the TNF: There is a handline and a hoselay around the fire. Heavy mop-up is still ongoing, that’s why the official containment figure is at 75%. Firefighters hope to have the fire fully mopped up by the end of today. Sugar Pine Road is open. Loop 2 of the OHV area has been impacted by the fire and is de facto closed. Be careful in the area! The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters fully contained the fire overnight, now mapped at 64 acres. All CAL FIRE resources have been released from the incident. Extensive mop-up operations are underway, please use caution in the area and watch for firefighters and heavy equipment.

TNF Update: he Sugar Fire is currently burning South-East of Sugar Pine Reservoir, South of Parker Flat OHV Staging Area on the American River Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest.

The Sugar Fire is currently surrounded by Forest Service roads. Firefighters performed initial attack at approximately 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. Up to three air tankers performed multiple fire retardant drops throughout the day and have now been released from the incident. The Sugar Fire is under jurisdiction of the U.S. Forest Service and is being supported by CAL FIRE and the Foresthill Fire Protection District.

Crews are presently constructing fire containment lines and will work through the night. The next update will occur on Saturday morning May 11, 2019.

The cause of the Sugar Fire is currently under investigation.

Sugar Air Attack is returning to Grass Valley for fuel and is releasing Tanker 96 back to McClellan, both helicopters are still working the fire. A relief Air Attack will be over the fire to take over from AA230.

Foresthill Fire Protection District W/T-89 is currently assigned to the “Sugar” Incident two miles north of Foresthill Road on Sugar Pine Road.

Fire is holding at 20-25 acres, fire behavior has moderated considerably, “things are coming together,” per the IC. The road system is holding the fire within lines on all four sides. Command structure for the incident has been established. Placer County road crews are placing closure signs on connecting roads to Sugar Pine Road.

Fire is now estimated at 30 acres, gusty winds out of the northwest are hampering rapid containment efforts. Tahoe National Forest officials are urging anyone in the Sugar Pine OHV staging area to leave, precautionary evacuation will be ordered. Growlersburg crews 2 and 4 are en route to the fire.
