May 31, 2018 – My name is Bill Smethers and I am running for Sheriff on a platform of public safety. Throughout my 25-year career in law enforcement, I have gained an in-depth understanding of the intricacies of the Sheriff’s Office duties, Policies, and Operational Plans. I have experience in every division within the Sheriff’s Office, which has earned me the endorsement of the men and women that protect Nevada County. These endorsements include:

When elected, I will continue to strengthen the core values of the Sheriff’s Office, work to increase staffing levels, and continue to develop Mutual Aid agreements with our safety partners. I will be tough on crime, increase the safety of our schools and community while working closely with other law enforcement agencies.
I support the right of people to defend themselves, their families, and their home in a safe and responsible manner. I am committed to a safe and healthy Nevada County, where families can thrive. I live and work by my father’s example of public service to Nevada County, and I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as your next Sheriff.
