Dry with breezy north wind today. Significant warming pattern this week with high temperatures 10-25 degrees above normal through the week, peaking Tuesday through Thursday.

Strong eastern Pacific high pressure ridge will build eastward over NorCal this week with a significant warming trend. Surface gradient will tighten this afternoon with a few northerly wind gusts up to 25 mph over the Sacramento Valley, especially between Red Bluff and Marysville. Gusty east downslope winds up to 35 mph will be possible through canyons and gaps of the Sierra Nevada late Monday night and Tuesday morning.
The ridge will reach its peak amplitude Tuesday and Wednesday with high temperatures reaching from 15 to 25 degrees above normal.
Valley high temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80’s over much of the area. This will likely set records at many locations Tuesday and Wednesday.
Only slight cooling into the low and mid 80’s Thursday with a slight flattening of the ridge. Winds Tuesday afternoon through Thursday will generally be light.
Extended Discussion (Friday through Monday)
Our strong upper level ridge will be pushing to the east for the start of the extended period as troughing deepens over the Pacific. This will start to bring cooler temperatures to the region but they will still remain well above average into Saturday. Toughing will then start to push to the east Sunday into early next week and will bring shower chances to the area.
Ensembles are all over the place with this trough especially when it comes to timing but also how far south it digs. This trough is able to draw in more moisture which is good but it`s unclear where the highest QPF will be across the state.
