GRASS VALLEY, Calif. April 17, 2017 – Members of the public are invited to learn “How to Give Persuasive Public Testimony” at the monthly dinner meeting of Business & Professional Women of Nevada County on Wednesday, April 19, 5:30 p.m. at Summer Thyme’s Bakery & Deli in Grass Valley.

Citizens around the country are energized to participate in town halls, community forums, and local government meetings, yet speaking in front of a group has historically ranked as a top fear of the American public. When addressing decision-makers with only a few minutes to speak, the stakes are even higher.

Come learn the three key elements that should be included in any presentation when your goal is to persuade–to change someone’s beliefs, opinions, or actions–rather than just to inform. Organizing your material and learning how to feel more comfortable and look more credible will also be covered.

The speaker, Susan Rogers, has a master’s degree in Speech Communications and taught speaking skills to students and adults at UCSB, Santa Barbara City College and as a workshop leader and consultant. Her Powerpoint presentation will expand significantly beyond the brief talk given recently to Nevada County Indivisible Women, and attendees will receive a four-page handout for later reference.

Business and Professional Women of Nevada County welcomes working, between-jobs and retired women and men who support equity for women in the workplace and in society at large. Meetings are the third Wednesday of every month at Summer Thyme’s, 213 Colfax Ave., Grass Valley.

Social/networking begins at 5:30 p.m.; dinner 6 p.m. $21 per person or $5 for program only. Pre-paid reservations are required for members and guests by Sunday, April 16.  To reserve and for more information on the organization, visit www.bpwnevadacounty.org.
